Attendance

Attendance

The School considers that regular attendance is 97%

At St Cecilia’s Catholic Infant & Nursery School we strongly believe in the importance of attendance and punctuality and the effect both have on children’s access to the curriculum and the extent to which they fully integrate into daily, routines.

We ensure that, throughout our school, attendance and punctuality is discussed and celebrated. We hold a weekly ‘Badges Assembly’ where classes with the best attendance and punctuality are presented with a trophy. Every half term those children who have achieved 100% attendance will receive a prize from our Headteacher and all children are encouraged to aim for full attendance every half term.

It is clear that those children who attend school more regularly have a better grasp of the school’s daily routines and also benefit from not missing out on parts of their learning. While every effort is made by our class teachers to ensure children who have been absent ‘catch up’, ideally each child should be learning at a similar pace to their classmates.

On occasions when there are concerns around attendance and punctuality, our school receives guidance and support from an Education Welfare Officer (E.W.O.). The E.W.O., acting on behalf of the Local Authority will contact families and seek to support them in increasing their child’s attendance and will work with school to ensure any measures required, are put in place.

We are proud that our school is a happy, safe and nurturing environment for our children and it is from this understanding that we will always emphasise our desire for them to be in school; learning and growing as part of our community.
